IMDB says it's the best ever!

One of the joys of IMDB (that's the Internet Movie Database for the less Web-friendly) lies in observing the exalted place of recent releases in users' ranking of all-time great movies. For instance, did you know The Shawshank Redemption is better than The Godfather: Part II and Casablanca? Well, now ya do. (Although the classics might rank higher if they had studio hacks and people over 30 jumping online and voting for them).

So we thought it would be fun to take this year's best picture nominees and see where they rank in the all-time scheme of things. Read on for the results.

The Semi-Pro cross-marketing onslaught

Wanna buy some deodorant? (New Line)

Semi-Pro, the new Will Ferrell ABA comedy, doesn't open until Feb. 29. (See the trailer here). But if you've been watching sports during the last week you'd swear you've already seen it. This thing already looks like an excuse to move product: Old Spice has a bunch of (moderately funny) spots, which you can see here. Bud Light is on the money train as well. There's even a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue spread featuring Ferrell and Heidi Klum (Hey now).

Are the products selling the movie? Or is the movie selling the products? Is this blog posting selling both? Does it even matter anymore?

Reconsidering Michael Clayton

It says here Vognar is full of it. But at least he admits it. (Warner Bros.)

Contrary to popular belief, critics actually like being wrong. It means our sense of certitude has holes in it, which, on the whole, makes the world a more interesting place. It also means we're human, and it's always nice to be reminded. So please indulge me as I adjust my estimation of Michael Clayton, which I peeped again following the Oscar nominations.
