The Jonas Brothers show up. Fans scream.

Search Results.jpgIt wasn't quite Waiting for Godot, but it sure felt that way as 10:30 p.m., the announced arrival time, morphed into 1:16 a.m., and the temperature kept dropping into the low 30s. But there we were, on the red carpet, in front of the sprawling Main Event entertainment center near the Cinemark Grapevine, waiting for the Jonas Brothers to jet in from Atlanta Saturday night (er, Sunday morning) and talk to the news media and, of course, a horde of screaming fans about their new movie, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. (Please click below to read on!)

Photo: Fans in Atlanta scream for the Jonas Brothers, who then flew to Dallas, where they would not arrive until after 1 a.m. Sunday

Yes, it was a long night for your faithful Jonas Bros. scribe, who started her Jonas-travaganza at a special, invitation-only screening, where the guests included Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban (who brought his daughter) and Charlotte Jones Anderson, the daughter of Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, and her daughter, Haley, 15. Haley proudly takes credit for persuading her grandfather into having the Jonas Brothers perform during halftime of the Cowboys' 2008 Thanksgiving Day game. Haley also brought two very thrilled friends, who contributed their share of screams as the Jonas brothers danced and sang, cut up and and did gymnastic flips across the big screen. Cuban left after the movie -- no doubt a testament to being very smart and having a very young daughter with a reasonable bedtime.

Other special guests, nearly 600 in all, were bused out to the Main Event to mix with the charming Dallas native, Demi Lovato, who also sings in the movie (and, it turns out, is a good friend of the Jonas Brothers). Meanwhile, hundreds of devoted fans waited out in the cold all day long (some arrived Saturday morning), hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes. And even as we ink-stained wretches kvetched, we had to marvel at their devotion and staying power. Demi, who came with her mom, former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and Irving High School alum Dianna DeLaGarza (who still looks terrific), and little sister, Madison DeLaGarza, 7, visited individually (if briefly) with reporters on the red carpet, telling yours truly how good it feels to be back in Dallas where she can get her favorite food from Chili's and Sonic and Mi Cocina (yes, she admits, she's a Tex-Mex girl all the way). "I like Texas more than any other place in the world," she said. And when the Jonas brothers FINALLY arrived, they seemed to second that emotion.

After flying in and visiting with the fans inside and outside the Main Event, they warmed the iced-up media with sunny smiles that drove the fans wild even from a distance. "So, after being all over the world and all over the country, including the White House, how do you like being back in Texas?" I asked the Westlake residents. Joe gave that grin, as Nick and Kevin seemed to step back slightly to let him respond. "We grew up here," Joe said. "We love it here. "We have good friends and family. And it's three to four hours from everything." "So what's your favorite thing to do back home?" This time Joe laughed. "Hanging out here!" he said, as he moved on down the red carpet line. Although I figure the real answer was a chance to sleep in their own beds -- something that doesn't happen very often in their Jonas-whirl. And as 1:30 a.m. ticked away, taking with it all feeling in my now numb toes and fingers, I thought "Amen to that (Jonas) brother."

Remember: Paragraphs are your friend.

I am a Jonas Brothers Fan. I went last night to meet them and was told they will meet the fans at 10:30PM, yet they did not appear until 1:30 Am. I along with my friend and other fans were extremely disappointed that we were treated that way and my friend and I got sick in the cold and had to go home. My mom drove very long because we live far away and I didnt get to see the 3 brothers I look up to and love.

Hi Summer, I know how you feel and I'm sorry you got sick. It was awfully cold out there and I felt pretty miserable myself at the end. I was just amazed by how many people stayed. If it makes you feel any better, I get the impression that the brothers don't have all that much control about their schedule as they fly in from city to city and are whisked from commitment to commitment.

Hi BSG, Would you believe the words were huddling together for warmth? Oh well, point taken and paragraphs made. Hope this helps!

I was totally diasppointed with the Jonas Brothers Saturday night/Sunday morning!! I took my two girls, one of whom it was her birthday and this is how she wanted to celebrate her birthday!! We were out there in the FREEZING weather just waiting, to see nothing! It was quite sad to see girls crying, trying to get warm, and finally leaving. We left at 12:30 a.m. If there is no control over their schedule, the Dallas Morning News should have never given a time of arrival and encourage all to show up!! Not sure what was worse, Texas State Fair where we about melted or Grapevine where we froze, needless to say we won't be attending any future Jonas Brother's events.

Hi pmiller, I'm so sorry about your awful experience. You must have missed the correction published in the Dallas Morning News about how the event was mistakenly listed as open to the public (as a publicist had originally announced). It was supposed to be a private party at Main Event and a red carpet opportunity for the media. That said, I feel very badly for you and the girls. When the Jonas Brothers finally arrived (they flew in from Atlanta), I think they felt very badly for the fans, too -- which is why they want to them first, before meeting with the media.

i got into the special screening but not into main event
i think people should STOP blaming the boys it was not their fault, it was the PR's who organized the event, i assure you that if they knew how badly organized it was they wouldnt have let it happen. and they apologized (yes i was there to wave and scream at them with the rest of the people who stuck around until 1 am)

i waited since around 9-ish and would do it again
after all i AM a die hard fan!!!

again it wasnt their fault, just bad PR
and they had warned us before hand that this event WAS NOT organized by them, and that it was a PRIVATE event, but of course us die hard fans we HAD to catch a glimpse of them, even under freesing conditions!

I would like to see a photo of their Dallas fans instead fans in places they were leaving. If DMN online missed taking photos perhaps they can use some of the pictures their fans took in Dallas. They are the ones reading this site.

Hi DMNreader, I posted the picture on the blog before our pictures were available. Have you seen the cool video of the Dallas fans by MIchael Ainsworth on our site? I'll check into pictures for you, too.

So I also left about 30 minutes before the boys showed up because my ride decided it was too cold to be out there anymore. Needless to say I was devastated. I would love to know if there are any pictures you could send me of the night because I'm pretty sure your reporter took pictures of me. Let me know!

Hi Christina, Oh, I feel you for -- missing them by 30 minutes! Our photographer Michael Ainsworth didn't have any good pictures of the fans to post BUT he did take a fantastic video of the fans. If you check out my next Jonas Brothers blog item, about the boys going on to visit and sing to a young girl with cancer that very same Sunday in Grapevine, I believe there's a link that will connect you with our video. There's also a link to the video of the boys singing to her. Let me know if it works.

Obviously there is no control over flights that the Jonas brothers on. I understand that....what was very wrong to do was the PR people or security or whoever was standing out there telling all the fans after the 1030 hr that the brothers were going to appear any minute. If they had of said to everyone they were on a flight and it may be a few hours, then parents could of made a reasonable decision to stay or leave rather than have alot of young girls standing out in freezing temps for hours. So it was a bad PR decision and I know my girls and friends don't even want to spend any more money or time on the Jonas brothers, including seeing the movie.

I wish there had never been that initial misunderstanding about it being a public event (it was not). It was a non-issue for the folks inside the Main Event, since they were warm. But it was awful for you and we in the media were pretty miserable out by the red carpet, too. I got home at 2 a.m. and then had to get up at 6:30 a.m. to take my son to an 8 a.m. tennis tournament. Ugh! Still I was impressed that after their exhausting day (Grapevine was the fourth of four cities they visited Saturday), they went on to sing to a nine-year-old with leukemia in Grapevine Sunday. Did you see the video I posted about that?
