It's time to explain my recent spotty performance in the blogosphere, and perhaps hope that anyone noticed. You see, Ive come down with a bad case of what the kids used to call Senioritis. Except I'm not about to leave school. I'm going back.
My last day at the Dallas Morning News for about a year will be Friday, July 11. I'm heading east to do a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard, which means a year in the classroom (and a few months in the freezing Cambridge winter). My study emphasis will be African-American culture, specifically intergenerational connections between literature, hip-hop, jazz, film and humor. I'm also hoping to squeeze a Russian literature class in there and soak up plenty of knowledge and camaraderie from my fellow fellows. I'm humbled by the honor (to the extent that a critic can be humble), and I'll miss my Dallas life. I'm also looking forward to the change of pace, and to charging up my intellectual batteries in a way that Over Her Dead Body just can't manage. The Screening Room will remain in capable hands. And I hope to return bigger, stronger and smarter. Kind of like the Six Million Dollar Man. E-mail entry: |

Thanks Fenkel. I eagerly await the Gunnin' For the #1 Spot soundtrack. I would also like to propose a constitutional amendment that every NBA team play Nas' "Halftime" at halftime.
