Here's a random movie niblet for all fans of Steve Carell, who stars in Get Smart (opening June 20): he played goalie for his hockey team at Dennison University. (That's in Granville, Ohio if you were wondering). What was the hardest part of the gig? Keep reading. "Getting hit in the face with a puck," he told me without hesitation. "That's kind of the long and the short of that. Back then I didn't wear cage. I wore a molded fiberglass mask that was custom designed for my face. It sat right on my face, so it would keep you from getting killed, but it wouldn't keep you from getting knocked out. But they banned those. It looked like a skull. It had very, very thin foam rubber pads inside. I think it was more ominous than anything. It was scary looking, and I thought that was cool." We'll have more from Carell as the release date approaches. |
