We like lists. We must like lists; magazines and organizations keep pumping them out and the hunger still isn't satiated. So, as part of a 1,000th issue stunt called The New Classics, Entertainment Weekly has worked up a list of the 100 best movies of the past 25 years (including a Pulpy No. 1, at right). Should you care? Not really, but the random, arbitrary nature of such beasts is always good for a few arguments. Anyway, where else would you discover that Titanic is ten notches better than GoodFellas, or that Schindler's List eats Jerry Maguire's dust? Check the list and share your beef. The biggest beef among the films that are listed is easy - Unforgiven is at 71, I think. Have there been 70 better films ever than Unforgiven? Probably, but not that many more.
When exactly did Men in Black and Clueless become better films than Unforgiven? I guess I was asleep during that critical re-evaluation.

I was also pretty stunned at MIB's placement in such company. I think EW needs to throw a bone or two to the biggest money makers (which are also, sometimes, among the best movies). Unforgiven is an easy top-20 pick for this period in my book.

A lot of the list is fine, though. I particularly like the list from about 11-25. A lot of deserving choices in that range.
