The star of the AFI Dallas International Film Festival Wednesday night at the Magnolia was not an actor, or a filmmaker, or even a person. It was a chimpanzee named Rickey. Rickey is a featured player in the documentary Circus Rosaire. Directed by former Dallasite Robyn Bliley, it's the story of a circus maintained through multiple generations of the Rosaire family. Sporting a tux, Rickey entered the theater lobby in the arms of Pamela Rosaire but soon became a popular and very social primate, jumping into the arms of festival volunteers, theater employees, and, yes, a movie critic. Rickey is remarkably human - no insult intended, Rick - with hands that reach out to greet and deep, soulful eyes. I already miss the little guy. Circus Rosaire screens again 4 p.m. Saturday at the Angelika. |
