Oscars: This is the end

That was a fairly uneventful Oscarcast, and I like that. Didn't have to make any last-second tweaks to to my lead except plug a few quotes in and crunch some single-digit numbers, then it was off to the capable hands of my editor (what up Becker).

Sorry if that's too much info on how the sausage is made. Here are Some random observations to close things out:

If Jon Stewart is foolish enough to want this gig fulltime, give it to him. He's smooth, spontaneous, funny, and humble enough to please the Hollywood types who take this stuff seriously. They won't find anyone better.

The Bourne Ultimatum comes in second to No Country with three awards. They were all in technical categories (sound mixing, sound editing and film editing), but guess what? These are the invisible strands that go into great filmmaking.

The montages of past show clips added precious minutes to the telecast, but they were kinda fun. I love the clip with Lemmon and Matthau - a walking sight gag in tandem - talking about all the different kinds of directors. RIP to both of 'em.

And now, back to watching movies without worrying about awards for a while. What a concept.

Who was the "partner" that Daniel Day Lewis thanked, who was not in attendance?
He also thanked his beautiful wife for being "open minded"--is there something he's not saying?

The only person I remember thanking a partner was one of the No Country For Old Men producers.
