Best Actor this year? Since unfortunately have not caught up with everything, I think it's only fair to pick based on what I have seen, so I'll go with...
Johnny Depp in 'Sweeney Todd'
Depp's been one of the best actors in Hollywood for years and here he again showcases his knack for injecting emotion without ever overacting. And the boy can sing too, surprisingly. Great work as always.

I'll second CV on props to Laura Linney. I was simply knocked out by her work in "You Can Count On Me," and since then she has never failed to amaze.

Best Actress is a much tougher call for me, but I think I have to go with Julie Christie. The legendary actress went far beyond your average "sick lady" role and gives a truly heartbreaking performance in 'Away from Her.' This is one of those roles you'll be talking about years from now. My second choice would be Ellen Page, but I have feeling she will be nominated plenty in the future.

Cary Grant?
Sorry, someone had to say it.
Naomi Watts is the (modern) one who comes first to my mind.

I think Johnny Depp should win for Best Actor. "Sweeney Todd" although grusome (and musicals aren't my thing), is a great depiction of what happenend to the character and how losing his family brought him to "shave his customers a little too closely!" Johnny is such a versitile actor, and it would be nice as a fan to see him FINALLY recognized for his work. I think Daniell Day Lewis is so overrated and although good in "Last of the Mohicans" kind of loses it for me. I've not seen the film, but I'm not much of a fan of his. If not Johnny, than Viggo Mortonson, Again, not viewed the film, but his accent is awsome and he looks scary. "Pirates" should win for what it's nominated in, and even though I've not seen "Attonment" I'm pulling for that movie as well. Keira should have been nominated as well.

WHO CARES!!!!!
They're all just overpaid, overindulged, undereducated "pretty" people who get paid obscene sums of money to pretend to be someone they aren't. And for all that "hard work" they expect an award????
Let's give awards to people who matter.

I personally believe Johnny Depp was brilliant in Sweeney Todd so that would definitely be my vote!
