‘Gold’ rush
Fool’s Gold followed a tried-and-true formula (hot stars + plenty of skin = big pile of cash) over the weekend to claim the No. 1 spot at the box office with $21.6 million. With Valentine’s Day plus a holiday weekend also in play, look for this date movie to chug along nicely.
The up side
It’s high time that a little love was spread to The Bucket List. Made for $45 million, it has earned nearly $75 million in its seven-week run, proving that a movie aimed squarely at grownups can still be an unqualified hit.
Bomb Squad
Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights — From Hollywood to the Heartland left no doubts as to its Squad worthiness. Though it played in just under a thousand theaters, it earned $464,170, or a pathetic $482 per. It’s a worthy fate for a movie so pompous it felt the need to use both a colon and a dash in its title.

Sometimes you hit the target, sometimes you overshoot.
Prediction: Fool’s Gold earns $23 million and the top spot.
Result: Close enough to be considered a gimmie putt.
Prediction: Hannah Montana enjoys another strong week with a No. 2 finish and $21 million.
Result: Missed the green pretty badly here — No. 3 with just $10 mil.
Picking the extra-long weekend
With the early releases taking advantage of Valentine’s Day dates and the long President’s Day weekend, this frame is going to be a tough one to peg. But when all else fails, going with the movie you’ve seen the most commercials for is often a safe bet.
Prediction: Jumper earns $38 million Thursday through Monday.
Best of the rest
Three other films also open on Thursday: Step Up 2 the Streets, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Definitely, Maybe. But who will serve as the bridesmaid to Jumper this weekend?
Prediction: The Spiderwick Chronicles ropes in the kids on the way to $27 million and a No. 2 finish.

'The Hottie and the Nottie' should also be a Bomb Squad Hall of Shame. Paris Hilton's shameless vanity vehicle earned just under $28,000 for the weekend, which, according to /Film, means about 30 or so people saw it per day per theater. Ouch.
