Cotillard was considered a possibility by many, but I'm pretty shocked. I didn't think enough people had seen the film. Shows what I know. Kudos to the Academy for making a surprising and cosmopolitan move. (And, yes, to Becker for calling it). |

Yes, thank you very much. A note on Cotillard's win: She's the first winner for a foreign-language role since Roberto Benigni in 1998. Here's hoping Cotillard puts her Oscar to better use than he did.

I thought Marion Cotillard was most deserving, but I didn't think they would give to her either. She was on screen throughout, but Julie Christie, the favorite, spent only about half of the movie on screen.

Kudos to her for a refreshingly joyful acceptance speech! It's a nice change from the scripted thank-my-agent speech or fumbling around to remember everyone.

Oh wow, Stephen ... Roberto Benigni's "acceptance speech" or whatever that was, was and will remain the best. "I want to make love to each and every one of you and to the stars and the planets!!!!"

What Becker, you don't want another dubbed Pinocchio? Tough customer.
