![]() Paramount Pictures It wins with me because I never once got bored or lost or felt compelled to roll my eyes. My one complaint: I love you Claire Danes, but one should not learn their English accent by watching Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love and Sliding Doors. I'm not saying Ms. Paltrow can't affect a decent English accent; I'm just saying its a little like learning to walk in high heels by watching Dustin Hoffman Tootsie. That said, I still think she was charming and sparkly and very star-like indeed. Sienna Miller, however, is another story. I'm convinced that she doesn't so much "act" as she shows up and recites lines in the appropriate costume. Maybe she'll prove me wrong with her five upcoming films still in varying stages of production. But I'm not holding my breath. |

I suppose you could say Miller's best performance was in the fantastic 'Layer Cake,' but then again, she really just stood around and looked pretty, which I suppose is a role that needs filling.

i haven't seen Layer Cake, but I'm still willing to agree with you. i think she does best when all she has to be is set decoration.
I'm interested to see "Interview," which also comes out soon on DVD. I'm hard pressed to believe that her character is really a character, and not just Sienna Miller with a better writer than her own brain.

I forgot about 'Interview,' which really doesn't bode well for my point: which is that she actually is pretty good.

I don't completely disagree with "she actually is pretty good." I just disagree that she's good at anything more than being herself.
Granted, we can't all be Bette Davis or Meryl Streep or even Parker Posey (if we're going the indie darling route). I think she needs to find what she's good at and embrace it.

I thought Ms. Miller acquitted herself quite well in "Factory Girl."

Pete, I haven't seen Factory Girl yet, so I'll defer to your judgment, but I'm curious: how much did her role seem different than your perception of her that we see in the media? How much of it really seemed like "acting" and not just "being"? I'm honestly curious and ready to be proved wrong.

Haven't seen Layer Cake? Mr. Dallas will smite you. He watches it every night before bed. Or something like that.

In "Factory Girl," you see a beautiful innocent growing prematurely old, weathered and ugly right before your eyes. "Old, weathered and ugly" is not the perception of her I get from the media.
